Post-Rehab: Drug Addiction Recovery

Is short-term addiction rehab enough?

Where does the recovering addict find the strength and personal skills he needs to quickly build a foundation for recovery? Typically he passes through a medically supervised drug addiction rehab program, only to find himself back in the same social environment that contributed to his addictive behavior, with perhaps only a minimal idea of how to implement the necessary changes that successful recovery requires. One of the reasons for this common scenario is the short-term nature of clinical rehab programs. Because they are limited in time, they can not cover the full scope of what is needed for successful recovery, and the observation is that longer-term programs for rehab and recovery improve participant's chances for achieving a permanent drug-free lifestyle.

From drug rehab to healthy recovery

This current need for long-term effective recovery progams was recognized early by Mark Houston during his work with major alcohol and drug addiction rehab centers. HImself a recovering addict, Mark had a deep understanding of what was important to incorporate in the 90-day residential recovery program he has established near Austin, Texas. Open to adult men who have been through rehab programs and/or men with a history of relapse, the Mark Houston Recovery Center offers a 90-day program that takes recovery in a new direction. The Center's program, though not faith-based, is refreshingly spiritual in nature, honoring each person's rconcept of a Higher Power as they move through the healing series of the 12 Steps. Coupled with that, additional life lessons are woven into the enjoyable curriculum, including daily life skills, nutrition, and fitness.

Replacing the drug addiction lifestyle with new beliefs

Mark Houston's recovery philosophy has power in its simplicity. He believes that we are physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual beings, and that all four of these elements must be integrated to achieve the inner peace necessary to achieve permanent recovery and joy in daily living. Along with the 12 Step approach, he introduces the spiritual laws which govern our world, believing that knowledge of these timeless laws enable us to use them for our highest good.
